Part two: The interaction of nutrition and society.
After learning the correct meaning of the word nutrition in the first part, in this part we will look at how nutrition interacts with our communities.
First, what does society mean? A community is a collection of people who live together in the same geographical area connected by their history and traditions. There can be more than one community in the same area. Examples of communities are communities based on tribes such as the Maasai, Konde, Makuwa, etc., or even communities based on religion such as Muslims and Christians. Each community interacts with nutrition using their own customs and cultures, using real foods available in the respective area. Traditions and cultures are used in the way food is prepared and used.
In all societies Nutrition plays as a very
important link in the health and development of the individual, family and
society as a whole. The food we eat is what gives us the strength to plan and
do various developmental activities.
The relationship between nutrition and health is well established, good nutrition reduces the possibility of getting diseases, gives us strength and good mental and physical fitness. It is with this good health and strength that we can do various jobs such as farming, breeding, studying which with these jobs we get the income we use to run our daily lives.
The importance of good nutrition goes
beyond the individual, nutrition is important for families, communities and the
country as a whole. So the task of fighting malnutrition is the task of the
whole community and not just one person. All society and the government should
unite and take responsibility in eradicating malnutrition.
